Hope someone can help me here:
I've got a 94 Ranger 6, 3.0. Awhile back the dash lights started going dim then out right to left, took about a month to go all the way across. Fuses are fine and thats about all I know enough about to check--any ideas?
How do I pull the dash apart to fix whatever could be wrong?
Thanks for whatever you have.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 28-Dec-02 AT 09:42 PM (EST)]Sounds like the bulbs are blown out, bad bulbs will have a blackish film on the glass. I'm not familar with your dash but it's normaly easy with a manual, maybe a 1/2-1 hour job depending on how easy the speedo cable comes off. Replace all the bulbs so you don't have to do the job again in a few months.
Dosen't really sound like bulbs blowing, not with the left to right stuff. I'd almost want to say somethings wrong with your dimmer, but theres the "left to right" thing again. My best guess would be maybe one of those funky wire harness plugs is working itself losse. Defently get a haynes manual, has all the little nick nacks about takin stuff apart in it. The seedo cable is the hardest part. How you do it is to stick a small/med screw driver into the slot of the plastic connector and gently aply pressure away from the cable, and the cable should slide out. This is usaly done after you've taken the dash apart and have all the screws out of the gauge cluster. Even with it all apart you'll probaly still have to reach it from under the dash, but with it apart atleast you'll be able to see what you're doing. And if checking the connections and/or changing the bulbs dosen't work I'd take it to a macanic. Assuming no oneelse on the board here has any ideas. And whatever it turns out to be, be sure and post a follow up to this thread so the next guy (including myself) will know how to fix it.
