I am new to the ranger world and Have my first problem. First thing in the morning (temps below freezing) the tranny seems to have trouble going from the 1st to second shift and will rev extremely high then engage. It does this only in cold weather and only the after it has set a decent amount of time. Once the truck is warmed up it shifts fine.
So Far I have drained the tranny fluid and changed the filter and that seemed to help for a few days then it acted up again so I checked the fluid seemed a little lower then it was I added some and was fine for a few more days. then it started this problem again today.
I would appreciate any help. Thanks

my 93 Ranger has a similiar problem ,but its reverse that that doen't engage cold ,check transmission section ,under 93 automatic problems .I had a reply from someone that had some good ideas
I don't want to clutter up this forum with something that probably should be in the transmission forum, so briefly; It may need repairs, but there are possible quick fixes that actually can work temporarily. As asked above, do you see any leaks?? If yes, only after HOT?? There are several transmission additives on the market specifically to restore smooth shifting & correct operation. Believe it or not, this stuff actually works. The worst that will happen if you add a bottle is a couple bucks wasted, won't harm the tranny. If it leaks, the leak sealer will help A LITTLE with the leak (not much), but it will also help the shifting problem. If it doesn't work, you'll need more help than I can give. Please let us know how it goes (mine had similar problems, the additives worked). Good luck.
well After being away for a couple of weeks I have figured out what the problem was. First there was no leaks and downshifted fine from OD to 3rd. The problem turned out to be the modulator valve was going bad I replaced it almost 2 weeks ago and haven't had any problems since thanks for all the help
