I bought a ranger a couple of weeks ago and iam having a problem. The problem is that their is a rattling noise i think is coming from the driveline. The noise starts when truck is warm and i have traveled more than about 5 miles and going above 50mph.The dealer replaced driveshaft, but no luck.I hope maybe someone has some ideas.thanks
You say the noise doesn't start until the vehicle has warmed up. I gotta think exhaust system, too, especially the heat shields. Rangers/ Explorers are notorious for loose heat shields, which when loose rattle something terrible. I'm no expert, but I can't think of anything in the driveline that would start rattling due to heat. Again, it's gotta be due to heat because it doesn't do it when it's cold, right?
Just a thought.....I beleive that the auto transmissions have venting on the top side near the floorboard in your truck. It will make SORT OF a rattle noise when under a lot of torque. If you really get on the gas, you will hear it, but if you gently accelerate, you won't hear it. If you kick down a gear and put alot of torque you will hear it. I talked with a ford veteran, and he said thats what the noise is, and its really nothing to be concerned about.. This is assuming that this is the noice you hear. I have an 01 ranger and I have that noise under torque. My Brother also has the same truck with only 24K on it and it makes the same exact noise.......for what its worth.
