a shop can put in a c6; however your gas mileage will go down. If this is a daily driver, I suggest to you to get your e40d rebuilt and strengthened. Im having mine done as we speak, for only $995.00 total

the e4od didnt come out till 90. you probably have the AOD. you can tell by looking at the shift indicator it should read PRNODD1. IF you have the e4od it would have the OD button on the dash. have you tried replacing the fluid and filter? what is the tranny doing it may not need replacing. just some tlc.

I agree with Kem. Dont' get rid of an overdrive tranny unless you absolutely have to. Too much mileage advantage to sacrifice it if you don't need to. The AOD has a pretty good service record especially compared to the E4OD. May just be cable or linkage adjustments needed.

Not that its really a bronco, but my 89 C350 has an E4OD.

my shift indicator is PRNODD1. the transmission is slipping and making lots of noises like when it goes into overdrive it clunks and has trouble. i was thinking maybe i should get it rebuilt, and put a better torqu converter in. and depending on what transmission i have i would like to put a 351 in aventually, i just don't want to have any problems later when i put a 351 in.

As far as heavy duty AOD rebuilids go...If you get it rebuilt have them install a TransGo shift kit. The shift is much more firm. Also some people upgrade their OD servos from C's and B's to A's for more holding power on the OD band. There are also kits to use a wider stronger OD band. All of these increase reliability and capacity of the AOD. Extra costs are about 50 bucks for the transgo, 100 for the A servo and ~200 for the OD band upgrade.

But check all your other options (linkages, cables) first like grey said.

yes...my 89 xlt has an AOD and the indicator is the same as yours. Check out this LINK for a transmission spotters guide if you want to be even more sure.

go to this web site. http://ckperformance.com/ford_aod_2.html
this tranny would be the way to go. I know of one guy that is running this setup and he likes it alot. this tranny has an upgraded gear set that is slightly lower geared and keeps the OD. its much stronger setup then getting a transgo shift kit. those kits tend to not work after awhile. this tranny setup will perform great behind what motor you have now and even better behind a 351.
this is the one im getting and would highly recommend it.

AOD-HDSR/TPWR- TOWING PACKAGE (REVISED VALVE BODY CALIBRATION WITH MOTORSPORT WIDE RATIO GEAR SET) $1399.00

Truth be told a good rebuild can cost more than $1399 after labor installation, etc (wish that was how much it cost when I had to do it). Might be cheaper to buy a built up unit and install it yourself.

that tranny i showed you is a well built tranny and will hold anything you throw at it. it has the 4R70W gear set in it which is way stronger then the stock AOD gears. true that price is just for the tranny but you can install it , just get a few buddies and some brews. it would take half a day if that.
