Nuts about bolts

I am working on a 86 Ranger 2.9 lit. Changing the Oil Pump. The manual explains to disconnect the exhaust manifold tube to the inlet pipe bracket at the thermactor check valve, Does it mean disconnect the exhaust systen at the end of the head? Also what is the best way to heat these bolts and where, is it best to heat them at the point where they are in the header, and then let them cool , or heat them to a red hot glow and try to remove them while at their hottest. Also, my local FORD dealer, and parts store told me they discontinued carrying these bolts. Where can I get them if I need them?
Thanks jerry ranger9
