Search
Seriously, though, the same people who ask where the search function went in this forum are the people like the guy in Quizno's in Palo Alto today. For those of you unfamiliar with their setup, there are two lines. One where you order, and one where you pay. Both are labelled, not inconspicuously, with large, bright neon signs that read "Order Here" and "Pay Here". This guy walks in, gets in the pay line, and tries to order from the person at the register.
I wanted to ask him how long he'd been on the planet.

While we're all waiting for the search function to come back, anybody else have any good stupid human stories?
(Don't get all offended - we all do stupid stuff from time to time!)
(I'm dead meat...and there goes my donations.)
I'll limit mine to work incidents (lets just all keep them clean)....
I work for a company that does those 1/2 hr TV shows at night. We do ours in the mornings and around noon...but...same kinda thing. We sell books, creams, supplements...couple of things. We advertise for a product, people will call in and place an order...pretty standard setup. Every so often I'll get someone trying to place an order...and not even joking sometimes they'll ask me "is this a scam" "is this real" etc etc...its like....hmm...your unsure if it's real/scam...and you thought it was a good idea to ask the person who's selling it to you if it's a scam? right....
Next one,
I take people's info like their name, address, phone number for the orders. I get people all the time asking "do you guys put my info on a mailing list" "don't sell my name or address out to anyone" etc etc...basically saying they don't want junk mail as a result of this transaction. I'll tell them no we dont blah blah, which is true...we don't, but whats the point of asking...if I was actually selling them do you think i'd tell the truth...or actually take you off the list. If anything i'd put you on 10 lists just for asking such a stupid question. I'd like to stomp on the person who ever said that was a good idea. They'd never know it was me if I sent their name out all over the place. The biggest suppplier of names/addresses is your state, bet ya didn't know that.
Some of the people that call us are amazing, a lot of them can't even write down an address. I can type in someones name and address in under 10 seconds if given to me correctly. It doesn't matter how it's setup, I can do it (i admit I'm good at it, but even before this job i could do it reasonably quick). The people who send in checks/money orders need the address....some of them take like 5 minutes of explaining the letters/arrangement of our address to get it....come on people...there arn't even any hard words in it. Optimum and the city Danvers are the two toughies. Everyone thinks we say Denver...instead we're saying dAnverS. They even hear the V as a Z even though I say "V like Victor". Sometimes they'll throw an F on it instead of an S "like Sam". It's like, come on, the word doesn't make sense with an F it has to be an S. If you thought you heard me say the letter F at the end of a word like Danvers, wouldn't the light come on in your head and you might say "hmm that doesn't sound right"...I guess not everyone's lights work. Lots of people think MA is pronouced Massatoosets too. Our address also has a Suite #, and i'll be telling someone the address and they'll read it back. They sometimes put down Sweet # instead of Suite # haha. They feel real stupid when I correct them on that...and I do every time.
Eh, we'll do one more...
We accept credit card, money order, and check by phone. Many people have never used a check by phone before and when I tell them we offer it, some get scared and think it's an unsafe way to pay. Well then I explain how it works, and basically tell them it's just taking the #'s off your check. If you mail it to us, those #'s are still on the bottom of the check regardless, so whether you tell us over the phone or mail it to us, you're still giving us the same information except one is by phone and one by mail....people still don't get it and refuse to use a check by phone. If you actually wanted to protect yourself, don't use a check, use a credit card. There actually are people who think the safest way to pay for something is with a check/money order because credit cards are bad....HA...whats stopping a company from keeping your money order and never giving you a product...who are you going to complain to and who would help you in a situation like that? Nobody.....do you think the bank where you're check comes from cares about your lost money? No..........stupid people.
I have nothing else to add except, once again, snap out of it people!
Sorry to say, but in general, people are morons and have no common sense.
One of the better ones: I worked at a large university at their computer help desk. With 5,000 new students coming in each year, they were always looking for new ways to streamline the process of setting up new accounts. One year, they had students walk up to a 'dumb' terminal with a swipe card reader on top. The students were to swipe their ID card to get their username and then continue to set up their account.
The terminal said, 'Swipe card here,' right on the top line below the reader, which was resting right on top of the monitor. Surely some of you see where this is going...
A student walked into the help desk and said it wasn't working for her. One of us went to the terminal with her, and watched her rub her ID card on the monitor, right where it said, 'Swipe card here.'
No, I'm not kidding.
Yes, it gets better.
One of my enterprising co-workers explained to her that that method doesn't always work, so in that case, you had to use the backup method of swiping the card through the card reader.
