Squirrel....Sounds like we have about the same opinion here. I will rarely have the truck offroad, so I am not looking for a serious offroad tire. Did tire noise increase much with the Nitto's? Also, did you get your speedo calibrated for the new wheels and tires?
The Nitto's aren't noisy IMO, and I am pretty picky about tire noise, they are 10x quieter then my BFG All Terrain's were.
Ya, I did have the computer re-flashed for the tires, not sure if the speedo was in fact off, the tires are about an inch taller then stock, but better safe then sorry.
I wouldn't say I do 50% of my driving "off-road", but I do drive in MUD. And when I do, I want a tire that will do what I want. Alot of the new mud tires are not that noisy. I've had several different tires on my Superduty in the last year. And I will say that my MT/Rs were no louder than my Nitto Terra Grapplers. And drove just as good. If you don't want a MUD tire, don't get one!! There aren't that many in a 20" anyway, And in my opinion shouldn't be. I agree that 20"s are for low riders.
Sweet truck, that is the same look I'm going for just haven't decided on the wheels. I will use the truck off road occasionally for inspecting property. (Commercial Appraiser) I am not worried about the 20" rims. I think the look more than offsets any minor disadvantages. I'm not taking the truck rock crawling.
I am considering putting 20's on my 4x4 Supercrew Lariat. Since my truck is a 4x4, I don't want low profile tires like most people who get 20's. However, I am not looking to get huge tires. Any suggestions on a tire size that will maintain the 4x4 look and still be good on the road? Who out there has 20's on their 4x4?
I put 20's on my 4x4 about a week after I got it. I have had it in and out of the tire shop about 3 or 4 different times because of the vibration in the steering wheel. I ended up haveing 3 different sets of tires put on until finally today they finally found the perfect wheel-tire combo that works, they had put on at first Mirada (made by Goodyear) 285-50-20 an it had to much of a steering shimmy so they replaced them with Goodyear Eagles GT II 285-50-20, they did allright but still had a shimmy, then today they wanted to try a Mirada 275-60-20 an Bingo, the steering shimmy is gone plus they look better in the wheel wells compared to the 50 series sidewall, definitely looks like a 4x4 should look like. I told my wife with the 285-50-20 it looked more low riderish, my son liked it but I did'nt. Anyway thats what I put on mine.
My FX4 was lifted by my Ford dealer with a FabTech 6" kit. It has 22" x 9.5" rims with 37x13.5 R22LT Open Country Toyo M/T tires. The wheel Offset is +35mm and the Backspacing is 6.63 inches. I have Arelli Polished wheels from Les Schwab. I had a small amount of trimming done in the front on the edge of the lower air defector under the front bumper but it trimmed out very nicely. Now I don't have any rubbing or clearance problems. The ride is smooth and noise is low for a tire that size.
I also went with the Centerline Crossfire 20 inch wheels but got Goodyear HP's 275/55/20.. (33 inch) instead of the Toyos. I am very happy with them and the ride has not changed.
Hey you can check out my gallery. I have 305/50/20 Nittos with 20in wheels. It rides great. The truck is the same exact height, no rubbing, and wheels are flush with fenders. Mud terrain tires are absolutely worthless if you drive your truck everyday beacuse if it snows where you live you can't drive in it. Its like riding on ice. My friend has a hummer with mud tires and he cant even drive it in the snow, he slides everywhere. All-terrain tires have little slits in the rubber so the snow just doesnt get packed in the *****. Plus mud tires are noisy. If you want a off road look that looks sophisicated and rugged, then go with some 20s and all terrains. Most of the people that say 20s dont belong on a 4x4 are from the old school. The new schools coming in and theres nothing they can do about. Little wheels are only for golf carts now!
