front tank don't work

What do you guys think? I have a '96 F250, 4x4, with a 5.8L and 200k on it. When I bought it, it wouldn't run very well of the front tank. I got rid of the gas that was in it and replaced it with some new good gas. The thing still runs bad. No power at all. If I switch to the rear tank, it runs great. I'm guessing the low pressure pump in the tank is probably toast. Sound like the problem?

I'm thinking that you're right about it being the pump, but its a full pressure pump in the tank. They switched from the 2 lows in the tank and 1 high upstream to the Two high pressure pumps back in the early 90's I think. (don't quote me, but it was definitely before 94).

While you have the tank down, you might as well address any rust issues you find. Seems they like to rust where they meet the straps.

Yeah, the '96 def has one high pressure pump for each tank, so 2 not 3,
my back tank is out, and I have been putting off changing it,
till it snows I guess.. hmm, maybe next year.

2 pumps instead of 3! That makes sense. Now is the time address the pump indeed. My truck was bounced off a tree by the former owner. I'm replacing the box right now so, that makes it soooooo easy. I've been driving it around on the rear tank only, dragging a trailer. Last trip I had to stop every 100 miles or so, what a pain. The tanks are both pretty clean in regards to rust. I will give them a second lookin' at. They don't use salt on the roads out here so no rust. Thanx for the help! I was thinking about switching the pumps to see if that was the problem, but I'm pretty sure now!

Check for pinched lines too. You can have a good pump and pinched or kinked lines and have the same problem. Don't ask me how I know. I was ticked when a $170 new pump didn't fix the problem.
