Severe shudder

I just started to feel this shudder under acceleration. At about 35 to 45 it starts when it gets to the point where it should drop into overdrive. Today it was bad almost feels like wheel hop. Is this the tranny or could it be the rear end? Engine size is 4.6. Dave

How many miles on the truck? It sounds like the lock-up clutch is chattering in the torque converter. A fluid change may help. Does it go away once the converter is locked?

Thanks for the response. I have 47000 miles on it and has never been touched. Once that it drops into gear there seems to be no problem.

Definately time for a fluid change, most reccomend a flush and fill every 30k mi.

Here's a good diy article.

Just make sure that you use a good Mecon V fluid and not plain jane Atf.

Well thanks guys. This past Saturday I went and had the tranny flushed and filled, so far that seems to be the thing to work. Haven't had any shudder yet. Once again thanks. Dave
ps; I grew up that you didn't mess with the tranny unless you had major problems.
