True, but it is always best to start with something nice that already has alot of the parts you want, and then go from there.
In my case, I work 65 hours a week.......... so the only thing I CAN find the time to do is keep my eyes peeled for a nice truck that already has all the must have things like........ dana 60's, 460, nice paint, nice interior, good tires and brakes, etc.

In PA, his truck is way nicer than any truck in any PA junkyard.
Trucks in pa goto the j/y b/c the motor blows or the body / frame rots apart...

good luck! by the time you find one you could have spent the same amount of time building one and then you'd have a truck built exactly the way you want it.
i like F100SWB's sig b/c it says....It's not what you BUY it's what you BUILD"
that's why i have such a problem with jeeps and H2's b/c the ppl who buy them think they are so much better than any other straight off the lot b/c they have an ultimate 4wd.
yea, i wasnt looking at having a truck shipped from someplace west because i dont like buying a vehicle i cant look at. most vehicles in pa of that vintage are so rotted out that they can't pass inspection. the reason i bought my truck is that the frame is VERY solid, its got a d60 up front, and im assuming it was maintained reasonably because it was owned by a fire company before me. i've got a 72 olds thats about as close to mint around here as you can get, and its still got some pinholes in the trunk.
bremen--i told you there was a f350 in pitcairn a few months ago, i checked it out a few days ago, it's a dually, but its got ttb front. probably not worth checking out.
[QUOTE=Patrick_PDX]I saw the pictures of your truck in your gallery. I hate to be mean.......... but we have better looking trucks in the wrecking yards out here in Oregon.
It doesn't sound like you "realy hate to be mean" He is doing the best he can with his funds. Everybody starts somewhere. My truck was pretty well beat to death when I bought it back in '86. and I'm still working on it today.
I don't know how the truck market is where you live, but here in the Portland metro area there are ALOT of really nice 73-79 trucks advertised every week in the truck traders with 429/460 and dana 60 front and rear. Usually all can be had for less than 10,000. And that is just the truck trader, when you start looking online and in the newspaper...... it seems they are all over the place.
I could NOT duplicate what some of these truck already have for less money, not to mention TIME.
When you start adding up the total cost of parts, things get expensive real fast.
Your right, I apoligize if I offended anyone. I know we all do the best we can.
I think its just alot easier to save your money for the initial purchase, instead of nickle and diming yourself to death with a beater.
How many times have you seen ads that start out somthing like......"Must sell, ($17,000 in reciepts) $7,500 OBO, my loss your gain"
By the way, I actually do like working on stuff occasionally. Just last week I installed my ported blower on my Lightning, and also put in a new boost guage.
its unfortunate, but the market for older vehicles here is horrible. the problem is that everything that is driven is rusted to crap, and anything that wasnt driven and is clean has to have everything gone through from sitting, so your gettin stuck either way. i have about 2100 in my truck as it sits not counting the 460 sittin in the garage. so, as i figure, i'm not too bad off. i am going to keep the truck though, i just need to get the thing back on the road. i took it for a spin through the neighborhood last night, i had forgotten how much fun it is to drive.
heres how it is for me,back in 97 i was tired of my 80 f-150 that we used for prerunning races and chasing.it had broken down a few times(once in kingman it lost the crank seal, distributor seal, and intake manifold gasket at the same time,26 hour trip that should have taken four) so i decided to buy a brand new truck.a truck that was good on gas and could do light duty desert work,a 97 extra cab 4x4.iwas proud to own a new truck,my first new truck, and it was payed for!it was great for about four years.then "things" started happening.unexplained electrical failure, the front end splitting in half, blowing up cv axles, etc.and just the other day i went to start it and it was totally dead,no power at all.after testing the battery and the alternator they where both bad.replacing them both didnt do anything to get it charging again.after having two ford mechanics look at it and not be able to find anything wrong with it i have given up,leaving the house my wife asked what i was doing and i told her i was going out to the shop to work on the the 66,it was worth working on and she was driving to work in the 80 bronco which had never broken down and was purchased for $300."theres no radio in the bronco"she says,i told her to bring a walkman.any body can drive something only a few people can build what they drive.i should have spent the $325 for the alt and battery on parts for the 66,or found another bronco.

down here in Georgia we aren't as lucky as you are. i would rather build than buy any day! just my opinion
same here, i know what i have. i have a 72 olds that i love. i inherited it from my grandfather when he passed and its absolutely pristine. i want to keep it as he left it for me and it's kina boring that i can't really do anything with it. i kina bought the truck to mess around with some, have some fun with. i figure theres two kinds of people in the world, people who are trying to get cars to the crusher and people who are trying to save them. i, personally, am trying to save them. as soon as i hear someone say a classis is heading for the crusher it almost hurts. especially when it's something cool.
