hard starting 7.3

When hot my friends 92 7.3 Non turbo wont start. Any ideas?

it wont start at all or has a hard time starting? Please provide as much info as possible. Dont let your friend crank on the starter too long, they are sensitive - like me and Malcolm.

Really hard. He uses starting fluid if it does not want to go. Then it fires right up. Cold it starts like most diesels.

Sounds like injection pump is on the way out,that is the way mine acted before i replaced it.If you must use ether(although i dont recomend it) make sure the glo plugs have stopped cycling or you run the risk of blowing the crap out of the engine when the ether hits the hot glo plugs igniting it.After the gp's have been disconnected or have stopped cycling,with someone cranking the engine give it a small shot of ether,(1/2 second or less)it should fire right up.
