High octane dependency?

If I install a chip in a V10 Ex and use premium fuel, will it be come dependent? Will it ping when I revert to stock program and use regular 87 instead of 91/93? I know the chip allows easy switching from to and from stock, but I do not want to harm the engine by going back to regular at some time. I have heard that once you go premium, it is not recommended to go back. Any truth?
Thanks for the help.

No, it will not ping if you revert back. Pinging is caused by advancing the timing higher than the octane rating can support. You can only get ping in the opposite direction (running 87 with a premium tune). The recommendation you heard is false, so long as you run a tune made for the octane you are running (for instance, stock tune with 87 or an 87 specific tune, or premium tune with premium).
