Guys, the temperature dropped to 13°F here last night for the first time this winter. When I started my Ranger, the "Check Gage" light came on and I noticed the oil pressure gage was at the extreme low end, not moving! It said I had zero oil pressure. I was scared to death! I left the truck parked and idling to see what would happen when it warmed up. After a few minutes, the gage came back up to normal. But what is wrong with my truck? Bad sending unit? Bad gage? Or is it really not getting any oil pressure?
Yeah, I had 10W-30 in it, but I changed the oil today and put 5W-30 back in. It still has the same problem though...when I first start it up cold, it says zero oil pressure. And then after a few minutes the needle will suddenly jump into the normal range. It doesn't gradually go up, it just jumps to the middle of the normal range on the gage. So I'm hoping it is just a sending unit. From what I can see in the Haynes manual, this unit is located on the driver's side of the oil pan. Is that right? Will I need any special tools to replace it?
