I'm currently between myself on whether to get an exhaust system or to just get a muffler. Is it at all possible to just have a muffler welded on as opposed to buying a whole new exhuast system? The thought kinda crossed my mind and now I'm a little curious.....
Replacing the stock muffler on a SuperDuty would remove some restriction, but wouldn't be as effective as replacing the stock downpipe with a 4" model, and replacing the stock 3.5" exhaust system with a 4" system. Of course, replacing the muffler alone would be considerably cheaper. It's your call.

It all depends on what you are wanting to accomplish. If you're looking to increase flow - then yea - what Quadzilla said. If you're just looking to make some good PSD noise - chop and weld away.

What I'm basically trying to do, is maintain the stock setup (for now atleast ) and give it a mean growl. Because one too many times I've stomped on it, and just wished I could hear the exhuast go.The full exhaust will eventually come, but for now, I think I'll have a muffler welded on.
I found one on bay motors, but I'm not sure about it. Does anyone know anything about Aero-Turbine?

Link won't work so I can't comment on it.
Sounds like you should just straight pipe it. You may think that it would be redneck loud but the turbo is an excellent muffler. It would be quieter than a gasser with big glasspacks.
cut the muffler off, i did and am glad i did, nothin sounds better than when i get on it hard and hear the whoooosh between gears. flutter is kinda annoying sometimes but i guess thats just powerstroke distinction!
My god with a price like that you could almost have a whole exhaust system for just a little but more money. My muffler shop here had a 4" glasspack type muffler and they put it on for me and that thing has a little rumbler at an idle and I can hear it echoing inbetween some building when I drive down some alley's and that was what I was wanting to accomplish. By the way they put my muffler on and my bill was still only $117 versus $199 for just the muffler.
if you are just looking for a better sound, go with a straight pipe. I did, And I love it I am now guilty of driving with the back window down just so I can listen to it. IT will set you back maybe $50, and if you don't like it, then you can go get a muffler. A lot of guys use the Walker BTM(big truck muffler) which is a straight through muffler. I can not remember the part #, but a search would find it I'm sure

Flutter?!?
Of what do you speak? Could you describe this for me?
a straight piped powerstroke will make a flutter like sound. not so much at low rpms but as you make your way up higher into the rpm band. i don't remember exactly why it does this, i beleive theres a butterfly valve in the turbo or something, i'm sure one Kwik or one of the other guys can tell you exactly where it comes from. some like it, some don't, i personally don't mind it. gives it a little different sound than everyone of those darn straight piped dodges blowin wastegates open left and right around my town
