I've tried the "search" method, so ...

Having a "howl" from the windshield on my `99 4x4 supercab (all stock except vent-shades on doors).

Occurs between 55-60 and grows louder w/ increased speed.

Seems to be in center of windshield, but when I move my head (ears) closer to center, it seems more right-sided.

Have tried "pressing" around while driving but tricky (dangerous) and to no avail.

Believe I recall some posts about this, but couldn't find anything in my search.

Thanks in advance, Glenn

Get a friend to ride with you to look for the source. Your ventshades could also be the source.

Thanks for using FTE!

Check under "Road Noise" or "Wind Noise"

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 01-Jan-03 AT 10:35 PM (EST)]Thanks Dennis! And Eric I know what you're saying, but man this thing sounds like a tornado (or twister if you prefer!) - I mean it buzzes, howls, and growls!!!

PS - I can hear it over my stereo, and I've been asked, on an occasion or two, if I was trying to cause my "ears to bleed" from my music listening habits! haha!

Thanks again - Glenn . . .

Is your antenna stock? Some aftermarket ones will cause a noise. Also check every inch of your weatherstrip for tears or punctures.

Thanks for using FTE!

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 02-Jan-03 AT 07:25 AM (EST)]Yes sir - stock antenna - have been leaning to the weatherstrip possibility myself - though lazy me hasn't gone over it very well though.

I have a notion about how this may have occurred ... I'll keep (those in "ICY" climates might want to stay tuned) `ya posted ...
Thanks, Glenn...

I try to remember to spray my weatherstrip and door area with a little silicone spray during winterizing in order to keep the doors from freezing shut.

Thanks for using FTE!

Yeah I soak the weatherstrips all around my doors good w/ silicone! 1st I spray and wipe `em, then I spray the rag and wipe `em again - oh - gotta' CLEAN `em 1st! I tired of being "froze-out" years ago!

Get some chalk for a chalk line, put a little on the weather stripping and see if it transfers all the way around when you close the doors.

I think I follow you on this (? I may have to e-mail you ?).

You're saying to "strike a line" as is done w/ sheetrock (drywall) or in construction in general?

Very interesting concept ...

Thanks, Glenn . . .

Feel free to email me if you need to. What I'm saying is to brush/spray/sprinkle some chalk dust on the weather srtipping all the way around the door, then when you close the door some of the chalk should transfer to the body were the stripping contacts, if it doesn't transfer that could be the spot were you don't have a good seal.

Just out of curiosity, fold in the outside mirrors and test again...
