Alright - I'm just learning about these trucks but I believe your PS box will work/is correct but you need the left side (driver side) engine mount from the PS donor with same type engine (FE in your 66?). If you do have a big block then you need to look for a donor mount up through 76 as that was the last year big blocks were available. You will then notice that this mount uses a different mounting hole (one closer to towards the radiator). With that in place the '79 PS box should then bolt in.
AHyuuup! Even a different Zip Code & language too.
Reason is, 4X4's are "Front steering", meaning linkage is in front of front axle housing & differential so drive shaft will be clear & not intefered with. FWIW David, the 4X4 Strg gear is a whole different animal and it also matterwhether it's leaf or coil spring front suspension too. . . .
You're right for 4X2s like we have.
But as John points out the 4X4's are a whole different deal.

66 4x4 - sorry for the wrong info (I'm in the process of learning all the variances of these slicks). John and FBp will steer you straight and keep me honest
Thanks for the info. I did check out your reference to the tech page and wondered if a 66 would work as well. I would love to find a complete parts list that someone has used like https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/a...x.php/t-288043
Also does anyone know if you need special privleges to search the forums? I keep getting an error saying I can't.
hey 664x4 i also have a 66 4x4 f-100 i have 6 inchs of lift with 35's so im in need of the pwr steering. the problem i alway run into is. My steering box is on the outside of the frame. Some old bronco's 76-79 run on the out side of the frame and you can by a gear from checker or auto zone. The problem is the way the pitman arm points i.e. to the front or rear of the truck. So i have yet to find any thing on this website to address my problems
hey bocephus, your right about the left side, the 1979 box is also on the left.WHATS BAD ABOUT THESE SHORT BED 4X4S IS THAT WAS THE FIRST YEAR FOR COIL SPRINGS AND SOME PARTS ARE HARD TO BUY OR CHANGE,BECAUSE 1967 THEY MADE SOME CHANGES.I DONT KNOW IF THE BOLT PATTERN IS THE SAME ON THE BRONCO.THANKS

Hello, I'm new to this site, I did use a box off a 87 toyota 4x4 with a ford pump. It mounted in the same loacation as the ford with a little work
I have a 1966 F-100 4x4 with a 390 engine. I used the 87 toyo power box, had to drill and tap new holes in the frame and notch the frame at the crossmember for the pitman arm. I then used a section of a draglink off a mid 80's Chev truck, the hole in the chev fit the pin on the Toyo box, it was grafed on to the stock ford with a left right turnbuckel. The system has worked real well now for 2 years.
