From what I have read on tech articles, you need the power steering box from a 77 1/2-79 F250. The F250 has leaf springs and the box mounts on the outside of the frame. I have a 79 F100 4x4 and 79 F250 4x4 that I am parting out and they don't have the same setup. The F150 has coil springs and the box is mounted inside thr frame rails. Let me know if you need a photo.
The 1966 F-100 4x4 has coil springs and the streering box is on the outside of the frame just aft of the rad. core support. The F-250 does have leaf springs on the 66 trucks and the steering box is also on the outside of the frame but they do not work the same as the F100. Things in the 1970's are differant.
Well Thanks For All The Info,i Thank I Have Decided To Leave The Manual Steering On My Truck ,for Now.also,on The 66 4x4,s Didnt The Long Bed F-100,s Have Leaf Springs.i Have A F-250 And I It Has Leaves, but The The F-100,s I Have Seen Also Had Them,so If Any Knows Correct Me.thanks 66 4x4.
Would the Toyota power steering box work on a 64 f 100 4x4? I have been planning on bolting on a 77 f150 front end on the 64 changing it to coils instead of leafs and having disc brakes. Putting on a Toyota box sounds easier. Will a 77 Ford steering column bolt up to it?
The 65-66 F100 4x4 were coil springs, the F250 was leafs. The Toyo box I do not think will work with the leafs, I have looked at the F250 and the spring is in the way. But if you put on the coils it should work. I'm not sure about the 77 steering column, I used the 66, had to shorten it to fit.
Not all the 65 4x4 f100s are coil as the previous guy said. In fact I have never seen a 65 f100 4x4 with springs. I have a 65 4x4 and it is leaf. Some one somewhere has done this conversion. Once again if anyone has done this on a 65 4x4, please let me know. I looked at a 78 f150 box and it mounts on the outside of the frame and would for sure need some work to make it work on my 65. If anyone out there knows the answer to this conversion, please let me know.
Mstolz,i Agree With You On The Coil Springs.i Believe Ford Started In 1966 With Bronco, and Then Put The Coils On The Short Bed 4x4s Also That Same Year.i Bought My 66 Off The Dept. Of Nat. Resources In 1980,with 60,000 Miles And Was Original.
