I need to replace the alternator on my 1998 F-150 with V6.
Could someone please scan and send the instructions/pics from a manual.
I have to get this done quick and have no access to manuals right now.
Please help. Thank you.
You could join "alldata".....I'm sure that would help.
I adding new brushes to my alternator recently and that's all. Very inexpensive to do.
Removing the alternator is really quiet simple. Just unhook the battery, Loosen the tension on the belt tensioner....use your rachet to do that. Remove the belt (replace belt at this time also), then remove alternator.
You may only need to replace the brushes also but I would take it to parts store for testing.
My problem is with the tensioner. How the &ell do you loosen it?
I'm not stupid but I'm missing something here. I didn't anyplace to put a ratchet.
Surely it can't be on the pulley itself?
Can you please email me jbschmidt@bibb.com
The tensioner should have the idler pulley on a spring loaded arm. There is a square hole in the arm directly over the center of the idler pulley. Stick the drive end of your ratchet in that square hole and use your ratchet (or breaker bar) as a lever to lift the pulley off the belt.
