Plug life?

96-150 4x4 5.8 32000 miles: Have the original Motorcraft platinum plugs, manual says they are ok for 56000 miles but what about the years? Used to get 18 MPG hiway but now 14-15, is it time to change the plugs? Most of you prefer Motorcraft or Aoutolite but what about AC/DELCO, they are easier to find here?

I change mine about every (2) years or so, regardless of the mileage. That gives me an opportunity to inspect wires, interior and exterior of distributor cap and rotor.

use only autolite! do a search on why. every 2 years sounds like a good idea.

I agree. plugs aren't a very complex device. If you can change them relatively frequently, it's only gonna be good for your vehicle. It's one more thing that you can count on not going wrong. It does help you clean everything up a bit while you're down there. I used AC Delco, they work fine. You can get technical about all this stuff, but as long as it give a little *spark* at just the right part of the stroke, it's no big deal.
