Ranger Gas Guzzler
The cold air intake for my '96 Dakota was easy to make, the only hard part was finding a cheap airhat from a '97. This was needed cuz the '96 stock airhat had a rectangular nozzle on it which was difficult to find fittings for, plus the airhat itself was of large volume which was undesirable in this case. The '97 airhat fits the '96 throttle body and is smaller with a round nozzle that 3" Fernco couplers fit over nicely.
Once the airhat was on it was a simple matter of connecting a 3" Fernco rubber coupler to the airhat nozzle. To the other end was connected a 6" piece of PVC painted with black heat resistant paint. To the end of that was a 3" Fernco rubber elbow to make the turn to the front fender, then another 8" piece of PVC. Lastly, was another 3" Fernco coupler and then the K&N cone filter. Sounds kludgy, I know, but it was the cheapest way to get the job done and keep the airway as non-turbulent as possible. There are better ways to do it but a tad more expensive and my budget is very tight. Oh, I also had to remove a plastic piece from the grill area which blocked the stock air hose from getting any crap in it. This greatly increased cold air flow to the K&N.
If someone can tell me how to upload pics to this site I'll post some before and after shots so you can see what I've described.
