What is used to replace the vacuum lines that get brittle and crack. Dealership prices are exorbitant. I need to replace vacuum line to the EGR valve. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance for you help.
I have used some black hose of the proper diameter on mine. You lose the color coding, but it works. Guy at the dealer told me to do that. If there are kits available though, other than dealer or something, that would be nice.
I just did the same thing on my '88. You can get bulk black vacuum line at your parts store. I got mine at Advance (Discount) auto parts. It is not formed like your OEM stuff but performs the correct function. Maybe with some inginuity and heat from a blow drier or heat gun you can form it into OEM or other interesting shape. Good luck.
Haven't check with the local NAPA store but here is a link to one of the products they list on their web site http://www.napaechlin.com/2-671.htm
I don't understand why Ford went with using these plastic vac lines. My Camry uses a combination of rubber and aluminum tubing--if I can find the right size tubing I may adapt it to my truck. BTW, PEP Boys has some small ID rubber hose that I used to splice onto the plactic vac tubes that broke when I was doing some maintenance on the engine.
