Does anyone know where the fuel filter is located and where I can find it? I think I need to change it because my 94 f-150 4.9L 4x4 is chugging a little. Also, is it a hard process to do? Thanks
I believe that the 94 is like the 95 model year. Be sure that you have your patience with you when you do this job. You need the special LISLE tool to remove the hoses. The filter is right up on the driver's side frame by the front gas tank. The tool will lift the inverse barbs (for lack of a better term) off of the seat. IF you push on the hoses while working the tool into the fittings, it works a little better. Good luck. Maybe somebody else has an easier way, but I don't think that there is one.
On my 94 ext cab short bed. Its a tight fit. Its on the frame next to the front gas tank. You might want to unbolt the bracket that holds the filter to give you a little more room.
And yes you must have the removal tool.
Oh Yeah, dont forget to releive the fuel pressure. I started the truck and pulled the
fuel pump fuse under the hood. Have some rags and eye protection as well, since fuel
will run out of the line.

daajr
the bracket is a hassle to remove, i relieve pressure, then i break off the end of the fuel filter metal connectors. they break easy, then you can pull down the hose and work on the stupid relese thingys.
Does this year model have a Schrader valve on the fuel rail to relieve fuel pump pressure or no?? Don't know how many years they did this or if they still do it??
I left mine in the brackets when changing it, seemed to hold it in place better while I pulled and tugged on the plastic tool like a crazy maniac. Patience is the key. If it doesn't want to come off, keep pulling. It will, eventually. How long it has had the same filter will determine how hard it'll be to come off. There's been posts in the past about this. Run a search. They'll tell you about the tools. There's a good little plastic set at O'Reilly's for 10 bucks. It worked out really well. Good luck dude.
Are you replacing it with a Fram filter? i heard from FTE the filter inside sometimes will come apart. You can find motorcraft filters right at walmart and its cheaper. Napa has good ones to.
Changed the filter recently, 96-150 4x4, and it's not the best place to have filter. Had to unscrew the skidplate of the fronttank, just to get room for my fingers, cut off the bracketscrews so it came loose easier when unbolted. The frontconnection was fairly easy and the rear ask for more patiense due to tightness. It's important to push the tube towards the filter, just a little, before the tool is inserted to release the connection.
