Hey guys, can I cut in and ask a few questions?

Can I use the AC compressor from my 460 for this or do I need the Volvo one? I talked to a guy this weekend who did the OBA to his cherokee. He used a Volvo compressor too, but said the ones Ford used are probably the same.

You want to use a compressor that has its own oil resevoir (unless you're like Jopey and then I don't think it matters ). Most of the newer pumps are lubed by the freon itself so if you use them for OBA they seize up quickly. Pretty much all your old Fords used the York style compressor which will work for this. You can find them in junkyards for a dime a a dozen if you check the 70's Lincolns too.

Wizzard, I've already got 2 aluminum tanks but thanks for the offer. I had started to polish one of them but gave up when I realized you won't be able to see it where I was planning to mount the tank. I'm just thinking now that I may reduce the capacity a bit.

I have a compressor from the spare engine I got with the truck. Just need to get a tank and all the plumbing.

the older ford looking pumps that look like yorks are rebadged yorks for ford. the only problem is you do not know the stroke of the pump with the motorcraft tags. volvos are easy to get the stroke from the tag as they are stamped with them.


that oil fix was just a waste of money. I will say my first pump had seized after I modded it. but I aired up at least 20 or more sets of 35+ inch tires without any oil in the pump.
