Has anybody ever run the CompCams 292H? I currently have a 268H but the cam bolt backed out and the dang thing walked on me. Needless to say the lobes aren't looking too good anymore. I was looking into the 292 but was curious if anybody has had any experience with it or it they recommend something else.
390 w/flat tops
CompCams 268H
Edelbrock RPM w/Holley 670
Headmans w/turbo flow's
and custom paint for maximum power
compression is 9:1 with hypereutechtics. Out of curiosity, why are you against using Comp Cams? I've heard alot of people complaining about them and rounding out the lobes. Thanks alot guys.
I am runnig that Comp 292h cam it performs well, but your compression is to low to run that cam. Comp says it needs at least 9.5 to 1 but reccomends 10 to 1. so if you want to run a bigger cam I suggest ethier th comp 280h or a good crane cam. I preffer Comp myself!! anywasy the comp 292h will not idle very well, not a very streetable cam.
sounds good. I'm still not sure of my compression, the machinist I ordered them from said that he thought they were 9:1, but I seem to remember them as 10:1. I will have to find out for sure.
Polcat: You mentioned that the 292 is not a very streetable cam. Is it approaching the limit for the FE engines?
Thanks again for all your help guys I really appreciate it.
no not by far the limits. It has a very radical racey idle my truck idle around 900 RPM's it just is more for some one that is going to race alot. I have a 390 with 10.8 to 1 compression and runnig this cam. it is very hard to tune in for idle. if your going to do alot of racing I advise it , but if your going to drive on the street alot I would not. especially if you do not have a stall torque converto or 3.75 gears or taller. i am running 4.22 gears and a 2600 stall convertor so it all works great.
good deal, I do mostly Street driving, but I need to power for mud racing. I have a 70' F250, 4:10 Dana 60 front and rear, NP435 4-speed. Right now the 268H cam is OK, but as with everything, I need more power for the mud. How do you feel about the 280H? I also checked again on the pistons, they are 10:1 compression, I don't know what my machinist was talking about.
If youy going to run a comp cam I would suggest either the 280h or the XE284H, both these cam seem to be pretty aggressive especially for what your doing. Look at the @.050 numbers. any cam with a duration of 235 or lower in the @.050 is a good street cam a 235@.050 is just on the edge of streetable but would be a great cam. the 292h cam works good above 3000 Rpm your probably would want a cam that would come in sooner for your mud racing and the street use. Good luck , but one word of warning if your using non-adjustable rockers MAKE SURE you have no more than .040 preload on your hyd lifters!!!
