hello, I own a 1994 ford E-350 van, about a month ago I replaced the radiator because of a bad leak, was overheating one day and I just made it home, about two weeks later I noticed coolant dripping down from bolts near the middle of the oil pan on the drivers side, where do I start to figure out where the drips are coming from.?
has no Ac if it matters.thank you,
Might take a look at the freeze plugs on that side of the motor. Best thing to do would be put a pressure tester on the system, but they aren't cheap so hopefully you know someone that might have a tester. Look around the head gasket too, but if it were blown, chances are you would have more problems than just a drip.
I have a small coolant leak to . I hear a boiling sound from the engine when i turn off the truck, it last for about 20 seconds. Do you have this problem to?
Pressure wash the bottom of the engine and let dry. Then spray a powder(flour) and watch where the trail starts. Most likely it is the water pump gasket.
sorry mike don't hear a boil, got to get under it/clean the area/ again for one more good look, noticed drips falling off the two bolts on the left and right the oil dipstick, would a water pump leak end up by the oil pan?
Its only a few drops,
It could be the gasket between timing cover and block. My truck leaked there and coolant ran down the side of the block, behind the oil filter, and dripped off the pan. I had to remove an idler pulley and a few brackets to find it.
Could be correct that it is the head gasket leaking, it's possible to have an external coolant leak without a problem with a leak from the combustion chamber part of the gasket. When it overheated it may have warped the head enough to cause the gasket to let loose. Also if it is a V8 there are coolant passages from the heads through the intake manifold, check there for leaks too. Just have to track it down, a small mirror and flashlight might help.
well since the leak just started, and the front and passenger side of the engine is dry, my only guess is the head or intake manifold gasket, I see very light traces of coolant in the oil/white spots, and my last look underneath, it seems like the coolant is seeping from the bottom of the oil stick and side of the oil pan. I did have the oil changed after I did the radiator, it does seem high as well.
