I have a 6 liter that's been setting for about 2 weeks. Went out and noticed coolant on the ground, dripping off the bell housing on the passenger side. Checked the top of the engine and maybe only a drop or 2 on the intake. Does anybody have any ideas where it could be leaking from?
It is coming from the EGR cooler hose. It is a small hose about two inches long connecting to the egr cooler. If you go to the 6.0L forum and then go to the tech folder there is a link in there for the 6.0L bible. It will show a picture of where it is located. It is a bit of a pain to get to.
Yes, it's the EGR cooler hose. My 6.0 did the same thing about a month ago and has not did it since. Had it to the dealer, they pressure tested it and it wasn't leaking. I'll change it out myself in the spring if I'm not forced to do it sooner. From what I have read, it only seems to do it when it's cold. Good luck!
You should inspect the EGR cooler. They have been known to split at the seams if the engine oil cooler gets plugged with block casting sand. Adding a coolant filter to the 6.0 coolant system is very beneficial and will prevent this from happening. Dieselsite has them.
If it's still under warranty, let the dealer take care of it. Other wise I saw a post on how to take care of it without removing the turbo. Drain the anti-freeze, cut he hose in half and remove it. To install the new, remove the anti-freeze feed cap from the oil cooler, slide the new hose onto the EGR cooler pipe, re-install the oil cooler feed cap and slide and twist the hose back into place. Refill with anti-freeze. I haven't tried it yet though.
