i would say about $200-250 depending on what u replace. u need the cam, lifters, timing cover gasket, side cover gasket, valve cover gasket (may be able to re-use the old one), throttle body gasket and EGR gasket. also, while ur at it i would replace the composite gears with some steel ones from a late 70s f-150 with a 300. they should set u back about $35-40.
the cam i used what the crane power max truck cam, it was $109 from summit, lifters were about $40 and gaskets (cant quote an exact price, i got a master gasket set...)
well in my old engine it definatly helped in the power dept. gas milage always sucked for me so i cant say. havent driven the truck much since the new engine so i cant say...
did you install your cam yourself or have it done somewhere? I'm wonderin if it'd be hard to do with the efi and everything, i dont wanna end up breakin somethin and haven to spend more money to just get it runnin again.
in response to how hard it would be to install your new cam if you get a haynes manual from autozone or oreilly it will tell you step by step how to remove the cam.
