if anyone has seen or heard this before please help
was in reverse put it in drive, gave it a very little bit of gas and the truck started jumping backwards and then fowards once and stopped. I cant find any diagrams of a 8.8 in rear diff so not sure what its supposed to look like in there but when i took the inspection cover off about nine chewed up peices fell out.
called the junk yard and there out of 97 f150s, is there anything else that would be compatable, i looked at the rear end of my neighbors 94 f150 and it looks like the same? or if any one knows what would price of new one cost, or to take it to a shop and get it fixed.
here is the info i gatherd. 97 f150 4.6L 4x4 8.8 inch rear limited slip diff 3.55 gear ratio H9 axles
If anyone could help it would be much appreciated
Hey I was wondering if your truck had a clunk or any play in the rear end before this happend? I have a 97 4.6 ext cab 4x4 and the rear end has like a slip when I push the gas and its almost like a clunk. Just wondering if you had this problem before you blew the rear end out? I think I need a new rear end but I am trying to get by for now. I dont wanna spend the money for a new one. Unless I have a problem that can be fixed? Thanks, Mike
You could also upgrade to a newer rear end with disc brakes. That's what I'd like to do some day.
As far as the clunk. Some 97s have a problem with the slip yoke binding up. I pulled mine out and greased the splines real well. It seemed to help it out a lot.
