I'm just curious as to some of your thoughts. This is the first truck that I have owned that has an electronic AWD option.
For those of you that have (or had) the AWD option on their Expy 4x4s, which do you use for normal everyday driving 2WD or AWD? What are some of the pros/cons of using one over the other?
I guess the question should be 2WD vs 4WD High vs 4WD Low.
The 03, 04, 05 Expedtions only run in those 3 settings.
You can choose the bonus option "A4WD" where the car operates in 2WD and "Automatically" kicks into 4WD High when it determines a certain amount of slipping.
Best rule of thumb, When you need 4WD High, use it. If you just use A4WD, you might not be in 4WD High when you need it.
With your hubs always being locked in while in awd it's not a good idea to run this way if you have the 2wd option. The hubs are locked in during awd and just more wear and tear on your drive train. We live in heavy duty snow country and this truck is for my wife and i tell her to drive in awd unless its real nasty or when she dosn't feel comfortable put it in 4wd. I personally don't even put it in awd unless the roads are icey or deep snow and most of the time thats if I have passengers. The expedition goes thru most everything anyways, and if i need it, its just a switch away so...........
I would run it in 2wd whenever possible. This isn't an option for me b/c my Y2K X doesn't have the 2wd option from the factory. If its slick out, you go off road, or heaven forbid get stuck, just turn the **** and you're in 4wd. Plus you can do better burnouts in 2wd
