Hi, I was wundering if anyone new how to set the fuel mixture back to factory settings on an standyne injector pump from a 1990 7.3? I talking about the hex hed screw under the cover plate on the side. Mine has been screwed with so much that I don't know how to get back to factory settings. Any help would be great appreciated. Thanks
screw it in pretty tight and don't push the pedal too much past where it turns black. or make it where it only smokes a little. also the timing could be off a little, mark where the pump is at right now, so if it is best like it is, you can put it back there, but turn it a little to the left or right "no more than about 1/8th of an inch" i think turning it to the left from the front of the truck helps, but i could be wrong, do not adjust timing and fuel at the same time, it will make it much harder. and see if that helps, the timing ring thing inside the pump gets worn out and throws the timing off as the inj. pump gets worn out.
a good way to tell is watch which way your fan turns, and turn the inj. pump the opposite way that it is running. hope this helps.
1/8 inch at a time rotating the pump is way to much for timing adjustment from a known starting point. Someone correct me if I am wrong, I remember while facing the engine, rotate the pump CCW increases the timing but only a line width (mark on the pump) at a time and not too much as it's easy to to get the timing WAY off and start the engine clattering, not all that great on the engine either.
well i said no more than 1/8th, the internal timing advance turns it more than 1/8th of an inch. but if it is worn out, "i have seen them wear mare than 1/8th inch" you need to adjust accordingly. to make up for the slack. a worn pump can adjust itself out of timing by about 4-5 degrees. i had to jump a gear tooth on mine, but man did it run good after i got it timed right. dont try juming a tooth on the gear, if you mess up and 2, you only think you did one then it just messes you u real bad!!! don't do this.
