The 2.9L in my 89 Bronco Duce has 131,000 city miles on it and still runs great. What kind of luck are you other folks having and how long should this engine last before a rebuild is in order ????
I've got an 88 BII auto 4x4 eddie bauer.. got it 4 months ago after it had been sitting for 8 months.. Only problem so far has been a broken shifting rod (in the shifter stick).. it's been running GREAT (KNOCK ON WOOD).. much better than I had expected. I take care of the truck, don't put too much strain on it, and check fluid levels often
I have 88 bronco ll w/150.000 plus on it . the only problem so far is it burned out 3 pick up coils. It has been runing great sents I replaced the last pick up coil.So far I've done a brake job, replace the clutch ( my wife slips the clutch to much )and regular maintence oil, filters, tune ups.
I have a '88 Bronco II with a 2.9L 6 cyl. that I bought brand new. I now have 175,000 and have done absolutely nothing to it except change the oil and belts. I am 36, and this is by far the best vehicle I've ever owned. I also believe the key was changing the oil changes every 6k. By the way, it doesn't use a drop of oil! I am knocking on wood when I say all this.
I bought my "89 with 163,000 miles. Drove it to 218,999. Gave it to my son-in-law and it now has 224,000 miles on it. The engine has never been touched other than tune ups and oil changes. The 5 speed was rebuolt twice, and the rear end just broke on me. The truck owes me nothing. I'll fix the rear and drive it until it dies.
I have an 86 BII with 188,000 miles on it. These beasts will last forever if you keep up oil changes and watch your coolant!! I had to replace a set of heads after they cracked and started sucking coolant. After that new automatic tranny, I haven't had any problems..
I have an 89 Bronco II with 125,000 miles on it and has gone more places and towed out more friends. The dependability and reliability go without saying. I have done some minor work to it. I install an MSD 5200 ignition box on it and put a throttle body off and 85 BroncoII and ported and polished it. I also installed a high flow cat and a dynomax ultra flow muffler. All in all. In conjuction with the throttle body I installed a forced ram air system with a K&N stream line filter. The performance is great. If anyone has any other helpful tips to help increase performance I could use them
