EEC or Fuel Pump problems

My 86 Bronco2 has been running great for a while now. The first real problem we had with it, was about a month ago. That got fixed and started running good again.
Anyway, I've been having problems again, except no ideas what the problem is. What happens is, it's happend a couple times now, my truck would just die on me, while I'm cruising down the highway. Then, it won't even start. It's got the juice, but it just isn't starting. Now, the first couple times that happend, if it sat for about 20 minutes, it would start right up, and start running decent again. I thought, maybe, it was the air filter, because I had problems with that before. So I replaced the air filter, and the old one was dirty. I figured that was the problem. Well, apparently it wasn't because my truck died on me again, and never did get it started. So we got it towed home.
After doing some looking, I also noticed that the fuel pump wasn't coming on when I turned the key on. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. We checked out the pump itself, and it's not the pump. So, one of the wires coming out of the EEC, goes into the fuel relay, and had another wire that went who knows where. So we replaced the wire, and now have the wire out of the EEC going to the fuel relay switch and to the fuel pump. It runs fine now.
Any ideas what could be causing this, and if it could be the EEC?
Also, does anybody know where I could buy a computer? The computer that's currently in my truck is out of a 90 Bronco 2.
Thanks,
Jeremy

EEC or Fuel Pump problems

I have a 84 Ranger and a 88 bronco ll .I have had the same problem . It was the coil pick up. The truck will be runing great then it just dies or some times it will buck once then run good for 5 or 10 miles buck again then run 3 miles do it again then maybe run 20 just fine then do it again but sooner or later it stops runing al together. The Ranger was the frist one to go and I didn't know any better so I replaced it with a after market unit and got lucky It's been working fine for 3 years. I say I got luck because when the Bronco needed one I did the same and it didn't work out as go.I ended up going though 3 units till I got a good one. Thats a lot work. You see you have to pull the distributor out then you have to pull the drive gear off the distributor and remove the shaft to remove the pick up coil. It's not one of Fords better ideas. I say all this to tell you to buy your pick up coil from Ford (NOT AFTER MARKET)also replace your modual at the same time(GET IT AT FORD)it will be going out shortly. You can buy after market if you don't mind having to do the job 3 or 4 times this year. Let us out here know how things work out on your Bronco good luck.

EEC or Fuel Pump problems

I'll hafta check that out this weekend, when I get a chance. But the weird thing is, it's running just fine now. All we did was run an extra wire from the fuel relay switch, so the fuel pump, and now it runs great. Also, the very last time it died on me, and wouldn't start, I started listening for the fuel pump. And the pump was not turning on when I turned the key on, so I know it's something within the wiring, or the computer. I've already checked out the fuel pump, and it's fine, so it's gotta be wiring or the computer.
Thanks,
Jeremy

EEC or Fuel Pump problems

The fuel pumps don't make noise like the old pump on my 48 coupe did back in the 60s.I had my 88 Bronco stop on me on the way to work then I got it started drove it for over a week (Thats over 800 miles for me)with on problems then it stopped and I had to fix it.And I've had the run great and just go out no warning. I just had to replace
my modual on my 84 Ranger today because it started to act up on the way home the other night. Its a weak point on Fords.

It's the unit on the distributor with the wires going to it.The day after I answered your message the modual on my 84 Ranger started acting up. Theres a tool you can get at the parts store to remove the modual it's like a plastic **** with a 7/32 socket on it.That way you can remove the modual with out having to remove the distributor.

which wires did you replace and what were the color codes. I have an 86 bronco II in which the fuel delivery system has failed. I pulled the higth pressure pump on the frame and checked it for continuity like one of the tests I looked up said, (no continuity, pump bad, continuity..pump good.). I also checked the inertia switch to see if it needed reset, the switch was fine. If anybody has an idea out there please let me know. THANKS!
