automatic idle-up

When I first got my 2001 PSD with 3.5 inch down pipe with 4 inch back, Micro-tuner programer,K&N air filter and housing, and a power-aid spacer plate.

I would let it idle for about 5 min. and it would automaticly idle up a little. Now it does not do it.Does any one now anything about this? Is it good or bad?

What was the temp out when it would idle-up, it should only do it if it thinks it needs to warm up quicker due to the temp outside.

Your programmer might have over-written the code for the fast idle. A chip or programmer can/will do that.

Is it any thing to worry about if it does not work?

I would just say a little longer warm up's but most people if they pull the turbo off they gut it anyway to get the lower egt's and some are rewiring them to use them as an exhaust brake so the choice is yours.

The exhaust backpressure valve is not what causes it to idle up. That is purely a function of the PCM. If the outside air temp is above 40*F it will not fast idle. There are other parameters as well..EOT, ECT, etc., but the outside temp is the primary factor.

You don't have to worry about it if your truck doesn't idle faster when it's cold out. Those of us with the older trucks have been living with it for years.
