Angry Decrease in boost after installing banks intercooler

What is up with this thing? $1200 for my truck to make less boost than it was making before I installed this thing seems pretty screwed up to me. Has anyone else had this experience? Is there any way to adjust the boost level? I feel like I've been ripped off.

I'm not sure about the diesel world, but in the gas world, you commanly get a few psi less boost with a more effective intercooler because it is cooling the air better, so the air is not as e x p a n d e d, but rather more dense. For example, take a milk jug and heat it up. it will start to expand as the air gets hot, creating more internal pressure. Is there more air, no. Just e x p a n d e d. If there is not any noticeable loss in performance, I would not sweat it. That means you are moving the same volume of air at a lower pressure, and that is a good thing

Perfectly normal Lance, the more efficent Banks cooler simply flows better then the stock one. The less restriction in the intake system the less boost you will see. I saw a drop in boost pressure when I did my CCV mod.

Have you noticed any power increases?

Yeah I've noticed dramatic power increases but, I think after I readjust my wastegate actuator I will see what is really possible. I have an airaid intake that has been on the truck since the week I got it. Anybody know if this flows enough air or is there something better out there?

There ia a pressure drop from before the aftercooler and after the aftercooler. If you were to measure manifold pressure and not boost (there is a difference) you would see how boost from compressor to aftercooler PSI is higher than from the aftercooler to the intake manifolds. It all means that with your banks aftercooler your being more efficient with the compressed air in reducing restriction in the intake trac.

the stock intercooler is said to flow at 500cfm and the banks is said to flow at 650cfm thats what victor at banks told me and that it is normal to lose a couple pounds of boost I did get cooler egts and better performance by using their intercooler as for their 120hp chip I didn't like the way it performed and as a matter of fact I have one if anyone is interested just give me your catch code and banks even said they will re-program it they are top notch in customer satisfaction I would have no problem sending people to them forever and ever.

well I am sorry to hear that you had a bad experience with them my neighbor has some of their products too and has had nothing but helpfulness and cooperation from them but I guess just like any business you will have a problem from time to time I am real surprised that they didn't iron this out for you unless there were some other circumstances to go along with your situation.

ya i was very surprized with what happened as i was doing installs for someother guys(that were afraid to cut that flat snake pipe off) and created lots of biz for them and me when like i said my chip died on y2k and they knew it was dead yet they tried to weasel out of replacing it...sending it back to me DEAD twice...even when it was covered by thier warranty...so go figure? other circumstances?...i just gave them lots of good hard earned cash!...i even think it was Victor i was dealing with...i can give you a receipt # and you can ask him what gives...but thats old news aint it?..i know that when i get my intercooler it wont be from banks

????? I'm a bit confused on this one. If that was actually true, wouldn't adding an aftermarket air intake decrease boost? Adding an intercooler adds restriction. Either the Banks doesn't flow as well as they say or there is some other installation problem.

fordnut74 got it right; the cooler air charge will provide the same amount of usable oxygen at less pressure than a non- or less-cooled air charge. We can take this one more step by saying that you will get slightly MORE air in to the engine, since the turbo has less pressure to compress against.
