I know it has been two weeks since I posted so here it is. My truck has been at the dealer for over two weeks. It threw a rocker arm and the head has to be replaced, the dealer is really slow play'n me on this because I did not buy it there. I called and made a lot of people mad at the dealer and they said it would be ready by friday. That will be 20 days it has been down. Should I ask for a new motor?? or could it be damaged if a rocker arm broke, they said the motor looked ok. I even threw the buy back up to them and that got some folks a going, I mean the truck is a 04 F-250 with 2000 miles on it, just made one payment. So do you all think I should push for a entire new motor? The bulid date on the truck is 6-04.

It can't hurt to ask. The worst answer you can get is no. If ya get a no, I would just move up the food chain at the dealer and see what they say. Also contact the dealer you bought the truck from if possible they may be willing to help more.

Just inquring, but...
Why would you need a new motor if the rocker arm/rocker arm carrier and head was damaged? The rocker arms are have no mechanical relation to the rest of the engine if it simply "broke". The only scenario in which it could damage the engine would be if the breakage caused one of the valves to stick open, causing the piston to come up into the valves...this, even worst case scenario, would only warrant a new piston for that cylinder. However, even that is very unlikely. The arms are mounted in the head side by side for both valves of each cylinder; if one were to break it would simply fall down into the bottom of the carrier bolted on the top of the head. I can fully understand how this could cause damage to the head, but as for the rest of the motor I don't.
If you are curious and would like pictures, just let me know, I have a cylinder head sitting on my workbench now that needs disassembling. That would give me a good excuse to get on with the show
