I have an 88 bronco II 4x4 with the mitsubishi 5 spd. manual transmission. I was wondering if any one could tell me what's the proper lube to fill it with? I've been told gear oil, atf and a mixture of both. I'm using gear oil right now and it sure doesn't like the cold. Thanks

I had the same tranny and it went bad (real bad). The rebuild shop told me to use 15w40 engine oil. I asked if 15w50 Synthetic Castrol would be o.k. He said that would be even better. If you do run engine oil you have to change it a little more often. I put 30,000 miles on mine before I sold it and it still worked fine. Yes,gear oil makes them shift pretty stiff in the winter.

According to the Ford factory shop manual for my 90 Bronco II, the proper lubricants are:
Mitsubishi 4sp: SAE 80w-85, (Ford p/n D 8 DZ-19C547-A, Ford spec ESP-M2C83-C).
Mazda 5sp: Mercon ATF, (Ford p/n XT-2-QDX, Ford spec: Mercon).
I don't believe they used a Mitsubishi 5sp, at least not in 90 & later. My 91 Tbird SC has the Mazda 5sp in it, same as the little trucks.
