LAST EDITED ON 07-Sep-00 AT 08:48 PM (EST)[p]I have heard that the 2.9L may have problematic oil pumps. Could someone confirm this?
Reason I ask is that the gage drops a little sometimes, mostly in colder weather. Goes up some in warmer weather. Now it's getting cooler around here, and the gage is lower than ever before. This flies in the face of worn bearings etc. which would react oppositely to temperature.
I suspect the sender, only I would like a little feedback before I go through the hassle of chasing down a problem with the gage or the sender.
Obviously, I dont want to drive it any if the "oil pump rumor" can be verified. Hate the thought of that job :-/
Tbird, Haven't heard about bad oil pumps on 2.9, but before you buy a new sender, try cleaning terminal and wiping a little dielectric grease on it. May be corroded (or loose) and giving a false resistance reading. Don

I agree with cleaning the sending unit. They get crud on the inside & tend to stick. I had it happen on a new engine where the unit was reading lower than it should. Cleaned it and it works better. I have even had new sending units act crazy after 6 months of use.A direct pressure reading unit would have been much better.

Had a similar problem with my B-II, turned out the plug connector to the oil pressure sending unit was loose. Sometimes it would make good contact, sometimes it wouldn't. Drove me crazy till I found the culprit connection.
