Back in the the 80's when I was taking autobody repair in school we used just plain 000 steel wool for chrome or aluminum trim and glass, alot less work than polish compounds. I still use it when I ever find something thats not made from plastic.
I second the motion on "Nevr Dull". Most good autoparts stores or even Walmart has it. Works wonders on tarnished metal. I made an old rusted GS550 Suzuki motorcycle look nearly new with it last winter.
Never Dull really is a great product. After you use it, try some Mother's Billet Polish. I am really quite impressed with it. I used it on a truck I use here on the farm--basically just to see how well it would REALLY do--and it (after using the Never Dull) was fantastic. The Mother's Billet Polish is a bit expensive--at least in my opinion--but it works that good! The 3M metal cleaner and polish is also a very good product and it is less expensive than the Mother's.
