tire size vs mpg

I have 33x12.50x16.5's now and found a steal on a set of 35x12.5x16.5's. my ? is how much will the increase in tire height affect my mpg? They will go onto a 99 250 cc 4x4 v10 4.30 and yes it has a 3" leveling kit and 350 blocks in the rear so they will fit(before I get beat on that topic) they are both bfg at"s if it matters

Here is my experience with 35"s.

I have a 2001 F250 CC 4x4 shortbed with 4.10s...and the exact tire you've described, 35x12.5x16.5 BFG AT/KOs. The best I ever did, on a 225 mile highway trip, was 15 mpg. I also had a K&N FIPK II (have since thrown it away) and a TBS by Airaid (Still have that).

Typically though, my daily driving yields no more than 10 mpg.

I don't know how much help this is because, while similar, our trucks are still different and it's hard to put a mpg value on those differences.

And the fact is I stopped worrying about mpg when I bought 4.88 gears and 38" ssr radials. With the understanding that my truck is really just a toy for me, I've basically removed the words "fuel economy" from my vocabulary.

It is important to keep in mind that the larger tires are actually traveling more miles than the odo says (unless you have corrected the speedo). The 33's are approx 5% larger than the tires that come stock on a SD. The 35s are approx 11% larger. Next time you fill up try adding 5% to the total miles traveled and then divide by the fill up amount. This will help improve MPGs, but removing "fuel economy" from your vocabulary is still a pretty good idea!

Ya dont think about fuel economy for the v10. I had 35's on my v10 and I really never noticed a difference until i put 38's on it. I was getting about 8-9 mpg with the 38's. I wouldnt worry about the 35's . I now have a diesel and it feels like twice the truck!
