Turbo Timer Wiring

I am having trouble installing a turbo timer on my 1986 F250 6.9L Diesel. Can anybody help me with the ignition switch wiring? I need to tap into the ignition power (ON) wire. I hope someone can lead me in the right direction.

One route to go would be to get a fuse tap, check your manual, there will be somthing in the fuse box that is only activated with the key in the on position. For example, my truck, I use the Trailer tow line to run some of my accessories, connected after relay, this way it uses the same fuse, and turns off with the key as to not accidentally leave anything on.

I dont think I was clear enough in the previous post as to what exactly I needed. I am having trouble finding the wire that keeps the truck running when powered and shuts the engine off when not. Or maybe Im confused....

He is saying you can find the power you need in the fuse box. Some of the fuses are hot all the time(not what you want) and some fuses are hot only in run(what you want). After you figure out what fuse is hot only in run, go to the store and buy a "fuse tap". This little piece of metal slips over the fuse after you pull it out. You re-install the fuse with this fuse tap, and it will stick out and give you a place to slide on one of those common slip-on connectors for your new circuit.

I am not having trouble getting power to the turbo timer. I am having trouble finding the run curcuit that keeps the truck running. The turbo timer supplies power to this curcuit after the ignition switch is turned off for a set period of time. Thus letting the truck idle until the timer cuts the power to this circuit automatically. If someone could help me get this connected on an 86' 6.9L Diesel that would be great.

Now that I understand your question more, have you taken apart the steering column at all? Not having a wiring diagram that is where I would start, at least pull the bottom section down so you can see what color of wires you'd be working with. If you have a test light or meter, start checking wires coming off of the ignition switch. Someone else here might have wiring diagram or color code so as to know what wires should be what. Good luck.

That is going to be a tall order. The ignition switch has lots of wires turning many circuits on and off. Usually the older diesels cut the fuel off to cut the engine off. But if you have a computerized system, I don't know what needs to be on to make it run.
