Guys & Ladies:
Has anyone heard of a Silent Recall for the new 04, 6.0 L Diesel engine, I am hearing rumors of it.
This is what is happening, When the 6.0 L is under real load, turning 3000 rpm and 25 + boost, and engine is 200 degrees or hotter, this will acures when towing large loads up long grades. The presser in the cylinder head is so great that it is streaching the head bolts and allowing compressed gasses into the cooling system and spraying antifreeze out from under the reservoir cap, Ford does not want to admit to this because I hear the cost is $5000.00 for repair.
Question: Has anyone eles heard of this.
Rob.

Something tells me this is made up. If it starts at 200 degrees, then it shouldn't matter whether your towing or not, being and all their average operating temp. is much higher.
Mine has always sprayed antifreeze from the resovior cap?? Ford told me this is normal from the factory. They drained some but it still does this?? Is this a problem????

I know that there is a lot of trucks that are overfilled and blow out until it is to the level it needs to be. How many miles has yours been doing this? Also where is the level of anti-freeze at? Might want to think about a new cap to see if that helps..
Mine blows out the cap.......hope the Ford Tech finds it when I take my truck in the next time. I am going to be quiet and see if he notices as I have not power washed the engine down.
I'll see what solution the Tech comes up with........

Why would he address it unless it is on the work order ?
I'm sure there are liabilities for doing things NOT on the work orders....
Blowing coolant is something that has shown up on some engines. No one has nailed down a single cause. Over filling of the overflow (degas) bottle is one, the pressure cap on the degas bottle is another that seems to solve the problem in most cases. Stretching the head bolts is a stretch (pun intended). Seems it would have shown up before now with a lot of other symptoms.

one of which is not getting paid for the work
JD.....it must be the differance between dealers. Mine will call me if they find something else wrong with the truck and ask me if I want it fixed. If it requires a part I'll schedule another appointment when it arrives.
Any tech that would ignore a problem because it was not on the work order seems to be the norm from what I read in the posts here. I have two dealers, 1 Chebby and 1 Ford that are super good. I also have two dealers Chebby and Ford that I would not send my worst enemy to. The dealer and service makes the product good or bad in my opinion.

Yes, I have heard of this and it is a more of a problem with the head gaskets than the head bolts. When you take your truck in for service for blowing coolant out the reservoir cap under a load, have them check for exhaust hydrocarbons in the coolant. Now be aware if you have run a chip, have a aftermarket intake, over sized tires, etc. International will be looking for a reason not to pay for this warranty work. International has been sending around inspectors to look at trucks that come in for this work. Once they pull the heads on the truck, they will be able to tell by the star pattern on the top of the pistons from the fuel spray if the truck has had a chip or not. If you have a bone stock truck that has always been stock, you should not be a problem.

correct Max - that's a good svc dept....
but they should call before they authorize any work that you don't know about - that makes for good svc and good customer relations !!!! That's a keeper
