Look under the word "axle". Looks like I see a two digit code there. I can't read it but it sure looks like it is there. Maybe 19 or 29 ??? Just can't read it.
Guys thanks for the replies and help. I'm probably gonna just load up a trailer and haul everything down. True4.2: sorry, I didn't mean to come across that way. I'm just uncertain as to what route I will be taking. But if I kill the tranny when I get to FL, well.......I've always wanted a 5.4L automatic
And yes, I'm crazy, but I'm also tired.....corelation??? No.
Only buy Richmond or Ford Mustang Performance gears. There are ALOT of cheapo gears out there that WILL fail on you. This is not a time for skimping. Installation of the gears will cost more than the gears themselves. This guy is right in your neighborhood and I buy all my stuff from him. Ask for Darrin. www.eastcoastoffroad.com
in my opinion, ALL 4.2's should come stock with 4.10 gears.
Homer???? Naughty naughty. Weren't you just ripping me for upping to 4.56's???
I think that's justifiable when going from stock 30" tires running 4.10's to a 35" tire. Almost exactly the same thing as running 4.10's on a stock tire Silly you
Hey, what part of Fla are you moving to? I'm in Fort Lauderdale. Jeez, that's all we need is another Yankee down here just kidding....get ready for traffic beyond your wildest dreams!!!
Well, I just got back from driving 8 hours to get my trailer. My impressions on towing: O/D sucks for going up hills unless I'm doing over 70. That, and I now need a cap to cut down on the trailer drag. 10 gallons for 176 miles down. I'll find out tonight when I fill up what it was on the way back

Daytona Beach area for skoul. Then after that, moving somewhere where it is warm year round. As for traffic...thats what my motorcycles are for.

What are you towing in O/D for? That is for no load cruising.
His original posts states that he has a manual trans. I think he was referring to 5th gear.
Malbojah, are you going to be in Daytona in time for Biketoberfest? It's something you DO NOT want to miss. If you are, I plan on ridin' up on my Z1000. Maybe we can hook up, or are you a leather vest and chaps kind of guy (a/k/a 'the vest people'). Just busting on you if you are, most of my friends are anyway
Anyway, back to topic. The gear change is not so cheap, like I said before, i'm having 4.56's installed by Steeda tomorrow morning. The gears were about 220.00 (the taller you go the more expensive) and install is about 4 hours labor or about 280.00 plus fluids and bearings if you need new ones.
Man trans or auto. Do Not tow in O/D. That puts extra strain on the driveline and can actually cause the engine to use more fuel due to lugging. I have the 3.08 rear gear and 5 speed man. trans and tow a pop up camper all the time. I get 15-17mpg in 4th (1:1) gear at 60-65mph. Towing at over 70mph can be irresponsible if the truck is not set up propperly, (Trailer brakes, sway control, tires etc.)
I'm going to differ with you on that one.
Towing in O/D with either manual or automatic is, IMO, acceptable in the proper situation. Not in every situation, but the proper situation.
I have towed in O/D every time I tow anything. When I need to shift down, I shift down. If you are lugging then the problem is the driver, not the transmission.
But, with a 3.08 rear end, I can imagine O/D might be a bit more challenging than with a 3.55 rear end.

I won't be down till the end of December. School is costing me a bloody fortune, so I'm going down next month to find a house to rent for cheap. I'll be there for Daytona Bike Week, but I'll probably skip that and go to the Deal's Gap as long as the weather is good.
And yes I was towing in 5th gear, with an empty box trailer (weighs about 1100lbs empty).
