Do they have enough power? As yall ahve seen I wa lookin' for a 4 banger as offroad truck, but I also want somthin' that can handle mud instead of just sand and trails. I would love the input.
Every engine can handle mud to a certain degree. A 6HP Briggs & Stratton will move a lawnmower through mud. Asking if a V6 has enough power for mud is far too vague a question. What kind of mud, what kind of rig, what kind of V6, what mods, tire size, gear ratio, etc? A V6 isn't going to do as well as a V8 but it will push better than a 4 cylinder. When you're talking mud more power is ALWAYS better.
lol what kind of question is that? that question is more circumstantial than anything.....i mean it will not push 44 boggers through clay with 2.73" gears and a 1:1 ratio tranny! you won't move. but i have also seen 4 cylinders burnout a set of 44's!
so in answer to your very vague question.....a V6 can handle anything you dish out given your truck is balanced enough (gears are right, good tranny, strong motor)
Ive seen Toyotas that have put full size trucks to shame in mud bogs. Ive thought about buying one just for mud runs. Theyr V6's are ok, but those 4cyl 22r's have REALLY impressed me in the past, you can really rev them. And with the tires spinning so fast they can kick off the mud FAST. Others may not agree, but they just really impress me.
About the most tire i would push with a modifed six would be 35's, cause the 400 in my 81 3/4 ton (stock motor, 4 sp, and 3.50's gears) has just enough to push the 35x16x16.35 boggers that i run in the pit and i can only run 1st high or 2nd low, and if i shift i'm done in the deep, thick, sticky type mud pits. But with a few mild mods and some gears along with a strong trany, you will push 33's and be able to get through quite a bit.
the thing with anything smaller, you have to spin it the crap out of it to get into a good power range. thats why the honda cars have 12million rpm redlines.
