Please Help! Was running great...pulled into 7-11, shut off engine (2.9) and it has never run since...that was 37 days ago! Cranks fine but no spark. Replaced coil..no luck; replaced coil to dist. cap wire..no luck; replaced Ign. Mod...no luck. Checked for fuel...pumps running fine and fuel reaching engine...even pushed the "reset" on fuel relay just to be sure. Replaced Solinoid..no luck; replaced Ign. Switch...nothing! Pulled dist. and replaced stator (pick-up coil)...still no spark! Bronco has new cap, rotor, wires & plugs. I even pulled the EEC out of my neighbors 89 Bronco (he was not happy about this) and placed it in my 86...still no spark! Ran the codes on my EEC and the only code comming up was the TPS...replaced it just to be sure..still no spark. I even went so far as to pull the loom off the wiring harness and checked for broken/burnt wires...nothing. I have even gone so far as to check all fuseable links with my mulimeter...no problems. HELP!! I sure don't want to tow it to my ford dealer, but I'm running out of options. Have I missed anything?????
Check the computer ground circuts. Sometimes found on back of heads. Main grounds are the two smaller wires directly off the negitive battery cable. These are bad about connection problems. And they will cause a no spark condition.
Pulled dist. and replaced stator (pick-up coil)...still no spark...........Is this the little chip behind distributor?? cause that is what stopped my truck. luckily I didnt have to replace as much as you!!
Check and see if you have proper conections at the coil, maybe a bad coil or bad conection. Not much left that you have not changed. Check the power at the coil and ensure that you have voltage there.
Thanks for all the help and sugestions. Found the problem was indeed electrical and turned out to be the wireing harness that leads to the ignition mod. on the dist. Seems this harness runs behind the engine and sits on lays on top of the transmission. The rubbing of this harness against the engine block and the transmission caused a wire to wear. This caused the ign. mod. to not receive power and therefor no spark.
Most common "no spark" situation is caused by defective T.F.I. Module (attached to the side of the distributor , 6 pin connecter ). If you remove the module they are easily tested with any ignition module tester.A "No Start" can also be caused by an open in the ground circuit. You should check the small ground wire connector at the battery (coming off the negative battery terminal and leading off into the wiring harness)You will see a small round black single pin connecter, usually very close to the battery (6 inches from neg. terminal)
