well the truck died on me last night....just what i need. let me start by saying that just about everything in the fuel and ignition systems are no more than a year old (plugs, wires, cap, rotor, coil, ign. module, ALL 3 fuel pumps, filters). Here's what happened:
-drove to the gas station 1/2 mile away, everything was fine
-went to start the truck back up, lights come on and turns over but nothing else
-checked pressure at the fuel rail, it is good but i bled off the pressure that was there.
-tried to start it again and checked the rail again, the pressure never built back up and i cannot hear the pumps priming when i turn the key.
-jacked with the relay and switched it with the one next to it, still no luck
- plugged my code scanner in and it will not even sequence through the code reading (no code 11 or otherwise) never had a problem with it before
so i think my EEC is dead.
now for the interesting part. i just found out that back in '93 my dad bought an AM kit from ford motorsports which converts my '88 to a MAF system, and includes a wiring harness for it and the injectors. It came with a new PCM, and also converted it from MFI to SFI (pretty cool). so if my comp is dead, what do i replace it with??? I have the old EEC but i know it wont work with the MAF
First off, I think your diagnosis is right. Sounds like a dead PCM to me.
I would pull the PCM out and see what code or part number is printed on it. I have no idea what PCM they used in the kit but it was almost certainly a Ford PCM. Hopefully you can figure out what you have from the number.
update: so i pulled the PCM and put the old one in there and it did turn the fuel pumps and my code scanner worked properly. i took some pics of the PCM and hopefully someone will be able to tell me what will work
