I own a 84 B2, 2.8 and want to convert the eec-iv/tfi to a duraspark II... I know the 79 pinto had the duraspark ignition, but what other vehicles might I find the required parts?? Also, when I switch carb's, would I be able to use the carb from the pinto or what ever vehicle I get the parts from, and would I need to buy an adapter to fit it on to my vehicle?
Dave- your on the right track here, the TFI and electro-carb on the B2s are very troublesome. When installing a rebuilt engine in my 84, I removed and threw out a grocery sack of stuff, sensors and wiring and junk, all from the same side of the truck. The wires I kept were all on the other side, 3 of them. 1. power to coil, 2 water temp sender wire, 3 oil pressure gauge wire. I used a duraspark distributer from a 78 mustang2, then wired that into an LX101- Dodge style control box (only 5 wires). Burned out a few brain boxes before I added a ballast resistor between the battery and the coil (jacobs 380672). My ballast resistor was also intended for a dodge. I ran the carb from a early 70s 302 v8, it bolted right on where the original was. My milage went up from 10 or 12 to 17-19. I was hoping for better, but was happy to get any increase at all. On the plus side, it had power and throttle response like never before! Everything was doing great until I started using it to pull stuck cars out of the median on the freeway, after 2 1/2 years of that, the little 2.8 tossed a rod while pulling a one ton stretch van. My fault not the new ignition setup. DF
