VentVisor Goo

About 6 months ago I installed VentVisors over the front windows on my 2003 F250SD.

Something must have been bad in the glue because they started to pull away and let water in.

I tried to remove them by first heating up the adhesive with a hair drier, and then also tried just pulling gently when they were cold. Same results.

Now I have this glue/adhesive crap on my window seal. Anyone know how to get it off without damaging the seal, or screwing up the paint? I want to install another set, but I don't think I will use VentVisor again, they stunk. Open to suggestions there too.

Here are some photos of what I am dealing with.

BJ

If it was me, I would just use a lot of good ol' elbow grease with some hot/warm water with lots of dawn in it. Dawn works particularly well for removing things on paint and whatever else because it has an extremely high alkaline content. Just try and wipe off the excess running down your window before it hits the paint. It won't hurt the paint, however Dawn removes wax and polish just as well as glue. Worse case if you got a bunch on your door, is just wash off your door real quick and slap a new coat of polish on it. I use the dawn and water solution twice a year to strip my truck as well as a clay bar. Another thing that can work pretty well is Windex.

Best of Luck,
Corey

WD40 works good for removing things like that, also ventvisor makes the ones that fit around your window in the door instead of the 2 sided tape over the top of your door, That are the ones I used on my truck to prevent the same thing from happening. about a 2 minute install and you can take them out for cleaning. Good luck!!

I have the same problem!! I tried WD-40 and didn't get the results I expected.

I'm off to Wal-Mart for some Goo-Gone.

I'd like the under the seal deflectors...problem is that the ones that flew off are the rear ones and I don't want to take the front ones off since it is such a PITA to clean off the goo!

I think I'll just sell my truck, get a new one and start over...

I have the vent visors that stick to the seal and don't have any problems. Did you use the scuffing pad and surface prep that came with the visors? The problem I have with mine are that they are pulling on the seal (at higher speed) and let in some wind noise. I'm gonna put some of that black silicone window seal between the seal and the window frame, hopefully that will stop the wind noise.

Can somone link me to these inside track ones? Never seen them. I'll be interested in how the GooGone works! Please post.

To take off the glue ,use rubbing alcohol.I recommend using the in channel visors. They look better and you don't have to worry about them falling off.

I guess my largest worry is damaging the rubber or paint...

I believe Goo-Gone is an citrus based product and I have not run into any issues with rubber or paint. You might want to look at Goof-Off as well. If you use Goof-Off remember it is a petroleum based product so I suggest you read the label. Worked well on removing tape glue and paint for me....

I contacted VentVisor (Lund) and they told me to use the 3M Adhesive Remover product. I'm guessing because the 3m one is citrus based, it does not hurt the seal or paint.

I'm still going to tape off the area around it to be safe. This stuff has been HARD to find. Most stores do not carry the 3m product, so I had to order it from an office supply store on line. err...

UPDATE: The 3m stuff got most of it off.

I took someones advise and bought the Inchannel model, but I cannot get them to stay up in the channel. When I roll down my window they pull out.

This is what I bought: http://www.sportomotoring.com/ventvi...n-channel.html

Ideas on how to make them stay up??
