Another readily available product that is real good at removing adhesives is aerosol brake cleaner. Normally they contain very strong chlorinated hydrocarbon solvents that are not alkali or acid. I sprayed it on paper towels to wipe the adhesive off when taking vent visors off a truck to be painted. If allowed to soak a while, it might start to dissolve the plastic seals or paint, but I didn't have any problems wiping it on.
