I just took my 03 E-350 6.8L 4R100 (E4OD) to the dealership for 30K maintance, which includes trany service/fluid change. Asked the tech about what all he found, and when I asked him 'bout the trans, he said A-OK. So then I asked him if he drained the torque converter and he said no,"there's no drain plug on it".
Is this true? If so, shouldn't there be a pump or some other technique to do a complete fluid change? Or is this just one of Fords better ideas?
Also, the van is a Quigley 4X4 convertion, and the Quigley maintance schedule (which I asked them to performe) calls for front wheel bearing and hub lock lubrication. There too, I was told that they are "non-serviceable"??? It's got a dana 60 SFA W/warn hub locks.
This is the first time I've used this dealer, and I'm not convinced they are telling me the truth.
Any body know if what I was told is correct? Thanks, Rob
I believe there are no longer drain plugs on the torque converters, but they should be using a pump to suck out the old fluid. I would think that gets almost all the fluid out. At least that is what I was told at the dealer when I had my tranny serviced.
