i got a 96 f150 reg cab and am looking to upgrade the stock system to something that sounds a little better and has a cd player, i like infinity and i would like to go with them but really dont know a whole lot as to what is good and what isnt....whats the best and relatively cheapest way to upgrade the stock system to something a little better? i didnt need like ground pounding bass or anything
Just a little better than stock would be IMO:
Pioneer head unit
Infinity component speaker system in the doors
That's about it really since you don't want a lot of bass. Infinity's are nice...but I don't think they are quite worth the cost. You may want to look at some other, slightly less expensive brands for the speakers.
Pioneer head unit's are okay, but for the money you can most likely get better (don't go to your local Walmart and pick out a HU either). I would recommend infinity speakers in the doors, if you have rear speakers I wouldn't go with infinity because they're too expensive not to be heard. Stay away from Sony if you can, their early years were good, but I think they have gone downhill. There's a newer brand out called Digital Audio, they have good ratings, you can find them at thezeb.com. Personally, I would get a little sub, like a 10" and a mild powered amp, and turn down the gain, so you can have a little bass. It dosn't have to bang or anything, but a little lower frequencies can even out the music IMO.
